Labrisz Leszbikus Egyesület
Labrisz was founded in 1999 as the first lesbian organisation in Hungary and since then has worked tirelessly to raise awareness of discrimination against sexual minority women, to represent their interests, to empower their self-acceptance and visibility, and to dispel prejudice.
The main activities of the organisation are:
Education programme.
Publications: since 2000, the Association has published seven books; a collection of essays (Lesbian Space-Force), a collection of fiction (Winds of Defiance) and autobiography (Self-Portraits Invited), an educational handbook (No longer Taboo; Still Taboo?), an interview book (Hidden Years) and a storybook Fairytale for All, now available in 12 languages!
Community events.
Cultural events: since 2005, Labris has organised the Lesbian Identities Festival (LIFT), and since 2013 it has co-organised LGBT History Month and has also been involved in the organisation of the accompanying events of Budapest Pride.
Lesbian Herstory collection documents the history of Labris and the traces of women who love women.
